On March 4 and 5, VRES had the exciting opportunity to host a booth at the UBC Career Fair, where we connected with many students and alumni from the University of British Columbia. It was inspiring to see the diversity of experiences and capabilities each student brought, as well as their enthusiasm for supporting youth development through VRES.

Throughout the event, our booth welcomed students from a wide range of academic backgrounds. We met students from faculties such as Arts, Science, and Engineering who were looking for opportunities to support their passions in teaching, community service, and front- and back-end support at VRES. Representing VRES at the fair were Bella, Bryna, Chelzy, Jason, Nozipho, and Tiffany, who spoke with attendees about upcoming co-op opportunities, summer job positions, and volunteer roles at our Spring Break Camp.

The event also held special meaning for Bella and Bryna. Both were connected with VRES at last year’s UBC Career Fair, and returning this year as representatives created a full-circle moment. By sharing their own experiences with attendees, they helped foster stronger engagement at the booth and further strengthen VRES’s connection with the UBC community.

Meaningful connections were built not only between students and our team, but also with other exhibitors at the fair. We met some companies and organizations that expressed interest in collaborating with VRES and potentially launching new programs together. We look forward to following up on these promising conversations and working together to create an even greater positive impact in our community.

A huge thank to the UBC Career Centre for providing such a valuable platform for helping us deepen our engagement with the UBC community. Jason, who was representing VRES but is also studying at UBC, shared his reflection on the experience: “Attending the UBC Career Fair allowed me to interact with many peers and talented individuals. I’m excited to see how UBC students can contribute to VRES.” His sentiment was shared by all of the VRES representatives.

As the fair concludes with a sense of hope and possibility, we look forward to returning next year and meeting even more talented and aspiring students from the UBC community!
