VRES relies on the support of our incredible volunteers to help run our programs and community initiatives throughout the year, especially during the busy summer season. With a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available, we welcome participants from many different backgrounds who are interested in education, leadership, creativity, and community involvement.

On May 7th, VRES hosted a virtual volunteer networking event that brought together both new and returning volunteers interested in learning more about the Volunteer Success Program (VSP) and the opportunities available within the organization. The session created a welcoming environment where participants could ask questions, connect with fellow volunteers, and explore roles that matched both their interests and the skills they hope to develop.

During the event, Youth Advisors introduced the organization’s Skill Development Plan (SDP), which helps volunteers identify personal and professional goals during their first one-on-one coaching session. Based on these goals, volunteers can be matched with opportunities that support growth in areas such as teaching, event planning, community programming, leadership, and web design.

Participants were also guided through the volunteer application process and learned more about the benefits of volunteering with VRES. In particular, the session highlighted opportunities available to volunteers who complete 120+ volunteer hours, including access to networking events, workshops, and higher-priority consideration for future paid placements within YRES/VRES.

To encourage discussion and collaboration, participants were divided into breakout rooms where they shared their volunteering experiences, discussed challenges, and offered suggestions for improving the program. These smaller group conversations helped newer volunteers feel more comfortable while allowing experienced volunteers to share advice and insights from their own experiences.

The second half of the session focused on upcoming summer camp opportunities. Volunteers explored common camp scenarios and discussed possible approaches to resolving conflicts that may arise while working with campers. These discussions gave participants a better understanding of camp environments while helping them strengthen important communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

At VRES, we believe volunteering should be both meaningful and supportive. Through mentorship, flexible opportunities, and hands-on experience, volunteers can build confidence, develop valuable skills, and make a positive impact in their communities.

If you are between the ages of 12–30 and are interested in education, health, environmental initiatives, or digital services, we encourage you to explore volunteering with VRES. Opportunities are available both in-person and virtually, with flexible schedules designed to support a variety of interests and availability.

If this is the kind of volunteering opportunity that speaks to you, join our Volunteer Success Program!
