In the spirit of expanding our free, accessible, and fun STEAM educational programs, YRES offered its very first, virtual Introduction to Guitar Workshops! These pilot workshops were designed to set students up with the fundamentals of guitar and prepare them for further practice. Taught by our very own talented employees, instructors guided students through basic posture, guitar anatomy, chord structures, and a simple song at the end for students to feel accomplished.
Students channeled their enthusiasm through active participation and response. Their zeal led to many questions, creating lively and engaging sessions for our instructors. The instructors had a great time teaching and witnessing the student’s enthusiasm to learn.
This program was created to further enhance our free virtual programs variety. We see value in the arts and in specifically, music for the personal growth and development of youth. We also understand that music classes often come with a hefty price tag and many families cannot afford to provide these resources for their children. As such, it was our mission to offer free introductory workshops so students can at the very least, have an opportunity to partake in the joy of learning an instrument!
Due to the pilot’s success and feedback from parents/students, we are planning to permanently continue the guitar workshops and expand classes to other instruments (more on that soon!!). We hope to offer more students the experience to appreciate and enjoy the wonder of the guitar and music!
Testimonials:
"Teaching guitar was nothing but a joy for me, especially knowing I once learned the same way through virtual lessons and could now share that experience with others. Seeing the students try each chord and hearing them play one successfully for the first time made me really proud, and I truly hope I was able to pass on some of my love for guitar to them."
- Joanna (guitar instructor)
“I had a lot of fun teaching guitar! Music was such an important part of my childhood, so it was very exciting to pass that on to the students. The kids were very patient and willing to learn despite being behind a screen. Playing an instrument can be challenging at first, but learning the key foundations and fundamentals really helps to spark interest and build confidence. It was very rewarding to share a small part of that musical journey with the students. I hope we can all make music together in person one day!”
- Bryna (guitar instructor)
“The host was very kind and patient. I liked the availability and the fact that it’s free!”
- Bri (parent)
“Easy to apply. Great opportunity for kids to learn a new instrument. Great guitar introduction course.”
- Summer (parent)
