On April 23, 2026, Bryna, Chelzy, and Bella, three youth advisors at VRES, hosted the Canada-wide Volunteer Virtual Networking Session. The event brought together 35 attendees from diverse communities to learn more about the Volunteer Success Program (VSP).

The session welcomed a diverse group of participants. Some were current volunteers, while others attended to explore future opportunities. This created an inclusive environment where participants felt comfortable asking questions, learning about available roles, and gaining a better understanding of how they can contribute to VSP.

During the session, attendees asked thoughtful questions about the benefits of volunteering and the programs offered at VSP. In response to those questions, Bryna introduced the flexibility of volunteer opportunities, including both in-person and virtual options that can accommodate different schedules. She also highlighted that volunteers who reach 120+ hours are eligible to receive government-issued certificates, which encouraged participants to stay engaged and work hard to reach this milestone.

The use of breakout rooms was particularly effective as participants who were initially shy became more comfortable speaking up and sharing their ideas in smaller group discussions. They discussed the skills they hope to gain through volunteering and how they want to give back to their communities. They were also actively engaged in discussing challenges they may face while volunteering. Chelzy shared tips for maintaining camper engagement during camps, while Bella explained how volunteering can help stand out when they apply for future job opportunities.

By the end of the session, the team shared upcoming in-person and virtual opportunities. Many participants expressed strong interest in joining summer camp and becoming part of one of the organization’s largest initiatives. Following the networking, the team received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with participants highlighting their meaningful and engaging experience. As one attendee, San-Jaye Francis shared,  “I enjoyed the Virtual Networking session. It was engaging and allowed us to share our thoughts and ideas as a group. It created a sense of familiarity and camaraderie for those of us who haven’t yet participated in in-person volunteering. Overall, a 10/10 experience. I look forward to more virtual networking sessions.”   By seeing such positive feedback, YRES is encouraged to continue hosting more networking events to connect and empower volunteers.
