Over the last few weeks, the VRES team has been connecting with members of our community in the Metro Vancouver area. We’ve attended fun fairs and school carnivals at Dr. Annie B. Jamieson Elementary School, Dr. George Mr Weir Elementary, and Columbia Academy Elementary, to name a few.
Our goal at these events is simple: to showcase the exciting learning experiences we provide and share the joy that robotics, coding, and LEGO activities bring to students. At our booth, children can explore two hands-on activities inspired by our summer programs.

The first is our robotics activity, featuring the Quality Checker build from LEGO SPIKE Prime and the Swing build from LEGO SPIKE Essentials. Students use coding to experiment with how the robots move and function while learning the basics of programming and problem-solving. One of the highlights has been watching children creatively modify the robotic swing to do full circles instead of its usual swinging motion. Students also loved programming the Quality Checker robot to dance and creating little pixel-art pictures for the robots to display using the hub lights. Their excitement and creativity bring so much energy to every event.
We also offer a LEGO arts activity because we strongly believe creativity and design are essential parts of STEAM learning. This activity encourages students to imagine, design, and build creations of their own while working within fun themes and challenges. Through the process, students develop creative thinking skills and learn how artistic vision, planning, and problem-solving all come together in a LEGO build.

Our experiences at these school fairs have shown us that children genuinely enjoy learning when it is interactive, engaging, and hands-on. No matter what other attractions are at the event, students are consistently drawn to our coding and design activities. That enthusiasm reinforces the importance of the programs we run and the incredible work our staff does to create learning experiences that combine fun with meaningful skill development.
These outreach events also allow parents to see firsthand how interested their children are in coding, robotics, and creative design. Many parents stop by surprised at how engaged their children become, and it opens conversations about ways they can further support their child’s curiosity, creativity, and learning.

Community outreach events like these allow us to connect directly with families and share the exciting opportunities we offer. Our programs are designed to enrich young minds, inspire creativity, and keep students engaged in learning throughout the summer months. If you see the VRES booth at a school event near you, come say hello and learn more about the exciting programs we have to offer!
